Mother Jones on Cheap Activism

This is a great article in Mother Jones on CPT and their work, and why they are a model for the entire peace movement.

Also, from Tim Nafziger: A blog for messages of support.

Still no news
There's still been no word on the 4 hostages in Iraq, although people are beginning to recognize that this support for their release is certainly "unprecedented." The BBC has a good report on the support for Norman Kember and the hostages (including a call for their release by a "terrorist suspect under house arrest in Britain"), and quotes some Iraqis off the street saying that CPT has been working to help the people of Iraq.

Side Rant
Why torture doesn't work

No one ever learns. War never works, puppet governments never work, hostage-taking never works, the latch on my truck never works. never. why don't we learn?
Toronto Star

With peaceful intent, but still in harm's way
This is another one, this time with an interesting quote from Gene Stoltzfus:

But here's something else that illuminates the position of Peacemakers: Stoltzfus refuses to rule out any group, or country, from the list of those potentially responsible for the predicament of the four activists.
"It might be the resistance, it might be a gang of organized criminals. Or it might be someone under the sponsorship of a foreign power.''
By foreign power, Stoltzfus implicitly includes the U.S.
"I would delete nobody from that list.
"There has been no demand for money. Maybe this points to the resistance. Or maybe it points to a concern about those who would draw attention to events that have unfolded in Iraq.''
